Isobar Tastemakers: Matías Martty

Matías Martty, Executive Creative Director of Isobar Argentina, dishes on his punk rock roots, his passions outside of the office and the work he loves most.
How did you end up being in the creative industry?

Well, I started in the music industry, I actually had a punk rock band in my teenage years! Afterwards, I started to study graphic design and made lots of album covers as a freelancer before starting as a trainee in FCB Argentina. I always wanted to work in this industry, I was fascinated with this kind of work.

What's your favourite campaign you have worked on?

I have 2 favourite campaigns, the first one is about organ donations. We made a music video with a huge artist here in Argentina, Dante Spinetta, and developed an exclusive technology for the idea. The work scooped several awards, including two Lions at Cannes.

The other piece of work I loved working on was for the LGBTQ+ community. We made an Instagram filter to tell everybody that being yourself is never an insult. Take pride in being who you are.

What's the one piece of work you most wish you'd done?

There are so many pieces that I really wish I had done, but there's one that I really love. It's an idea for spotify. Because of the simplicity, the connection with music, and specially because of the art direction. It´s an incredible craft work.

Who do you most admire?

I admire people with the drive to make things better, no matter if they are super creative or talented. Sometimes all you need is the right energy and motivation.

Tell us about an artist that we've never probably heard of.

Daniel Forero, no doubt about it. He's a Colombian artist based in Paris with an incredible body of work – including a cover for the New York Times. He's a great artist, an amazing, funny person, and a close friend of mine. https://www.daniel-forero.com/

What advice would you give to 10-year-old you, if you could?

Sleep well, make things happen and be happy. Never regret doing anything.

What's on your bucket list?

More travel, more gigs, more everything.

Do you have any secret or odd talents

I'm a great chef and bartender. Ok, maybe “chef” and “bartender” is reaching, but I'm pretty good at those things.

What movie/show do you never get tired of?

Pulp Fiction, Seinfeld...any show by The Ramones!
